Call for Abstracts

41st Annual Meeting
February 6-9, 2013
Waikoloa, Hawaii

Submission opens: Mid to Late May

Submission Deadline: August 31, 2012

Message from Dorene Rentz, Program Chair

The theme for 2013 INS meeting in Waikoloa Hawaii will be Brain Health Through The Lifespan.  We invite you to present your cutting-edge research in Hawaii.  We particularly encourage individual submissions or thematic symposium submissions that incorporate a transdisciplinary approach to current topics of interest that advance the study of brain health and disease in childhood, adolescence, and aging, and interventions to promote brain health. Consistent with recent INS meetings, we welcome submissions that offer new insights on the neuropsychology and neuroscience of cognitive and affective processes, innovations in measurement methods, neuroimaging, and groundbreaking treatment and rehabilitation techniques. Hawaii is a beautiful island with many alluring attractions, but we think we have put together a truly dynamic program with internationally renowned speakers that should prove equally attractive, presenting the best that our field has to offer.  Plan now to join us in Hawaii!  Aloha!

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts must be submitted online only.
  • Abstracts may be submitted for Poster, Paper or Symposium presentation formats (see below).
  • Abstracts sent to other national societies or previously published should not be submitted and will not be considered.
  • All research and results/conclusions must be final at the time of submission.
  • There are no limitations on the number of submissions; however, authors are asked to use discretion since submitting multiple abstracts may create scheduling problems.
  • All submissions will be peer reviewed. The Program Committee Chair makes the final decision on all submissions.
  • Abstracts that are accepted must be presented at the meeting by an author or their representative.
  • Abstracts that are presented at the meeting will be published in an online supplemental issue of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society (JINS).
  • The abstracts will be published exactly as submitted.
  • The body of the abstract should not exceed 2000 characters (including spaces) in length.
  • INS Membership is not required for submission

Presentation Formats:

  1. Poster sessions:  The poster format has proven to be an effective and popular method for communication of scientific information.  Poster sessions will be designed to provide a more intimate forum for informal discussion than is permitted by regular platform presentations.
  2. Paper sessions:  Paper sessions are oral sessions which are arranged at the discretion of the INS Program Chair and consist of 4–5 individually submitted abstracts of approximately 15 minutes in length that deal with a common topic.  An appointed moderator will rigorously adhere to these time limits in order to allow time for discussion.
  3. Symposia:  Symposia are topical platform sessions that deal with specific topics and are pre-arranged by a single organizer.  These sessions are distinct from paper sessions in that a symposium is submitted as an integrated presentation.
Symposia should consist of about four closely linked and integrated abstracts (ranging from 15-20 minutes each). These talks should be followed by a review led by the symposium organizer or a discussant, as well as a dedicated question and answer period.  In the case of a symposium that expresses divergent views on a controversial topic, two longer debate-style talks may also be appropriate.
Each symposium chair is required to submit his/her entire session.  The symposium chair will first create a session by submitting the summary abstract.  The chair is then responsible for electronically submitting the individual abstracts to the session created by the summary abstract.  Detailed instructions for symposia are available on the submission website.

For questions regarding the submission process, please contact the INS office

Notification of acceptance will be made by the end of October, 2012
