Program Chair: Erik Hessen,

Program Co-Chair: Anne-Kristin Solbakk

We welcome you to The International Neuropsychological Society mid-year meeting to be held in Oslo, Norway, June 27-30, 2012. The meeting is a joint arrangement with the 11th Nordic Meeting in Neuropsychology. Additionally, the Federation of European Neuropsychological Societies will contribute to the program, thus making the congress the largest and most important meeting about brain and behavior relationships to have taken place in Norway.

A major focus in the study of brain and behavior has been assessment of cognitive and behavioral consequences of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Development of knowledge about recovery of function, intervention and treatment is still a major challenge despite increasing knowledge about brain plasticity. Therefore, we challenge organizers of clinically relevant symposia and other contributors to include presentations and discussions that focus on intervention, treatment or recovery. On this basis, we have chosen The Changing Brain as the main theme of the conference even though the meeting will cover a wide range of topics in neuropsychology and neuroscience.

Because participants have diverse interests, the program will be organized so that professionals working with different populations and fields, especially children, psychiatry, neurology and rehabilitation, will find topics throughout the meeting that suit their interests.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Abstracts must be submitted online only.
  • Abstracts may be submitted for Poster, Paper or Symposium presentation formats (see below).
  • Abstracts sent to other national societies or previously published should not be submitted and will not be considered.
  • All research and results/conclusions must be final at the time of submission.
  • There are no limitations on the number of submissions; however, authors are asked to use discretion since submitting multiple abstracts may create scheduling problems.
  • All submissions will be peer reviewed. The Program Committee Chair makes the final decision on all submissions.
  • Abstracts that are accepted must be presented at the meeting by an author or their representative.
  • Abstracts that are presented at the meeting will be published in an online supplemental issue of the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society(JINS).
  • The abstracts will be published exactly as submitted.
  • The body of the abstract should not exceed 2000 characters in length.

Presentation Formats:

  1. Poster sessions: The poster format has proven to be an effective and popular method for communication of scientific information.  Poster sessions will be designed to provide a more intimate forum for informal discussion than is permitted by regular platform presentations.

  2.  Paper sessions:  Paper sessions are oral sessions which are arranged at the discretion of the INS Program Chair and consist of 4–5 individually submitted abstracts of approximately 15 minutes in length that deal with a common topic. An appointed moderator will rigorously adhere to these time limits in order to allow time for discussion.

  3. Symposia:  Symposia are topical platform sessions that deal with specific issues in neuropsychology and are pre-arranged by a single organizer.  These sessions are distinct from paper sessions in that a symposium is submitted as an integrated presentation.

Symposia should consist of about four closely linked and integrated abstracts (ranging from 15-20 minutes each). These talks should be followed by a review led by the symposium organizer or a discussant, as well as a dedicated question and answer period.  In the case of a symposium that expresses divergent views on a controversial topic, two longer debate-style talks may also be appropriate.

Each symposium chair is required to submit his/her entire session.  The symposium chair will first create a session by submitting the summary abstract.  The chair is then responsible for electronically submitting the individual abstracts to the session created by the summary abstract.  Detailed instructions for symposia are available on the submission website.

Abstracts must be submitted by February 15, 2012.

Notification of acceptance will be made by the end of March, 2012

If you have any questions regarding the submission process, please contact the INS office by email.
