Post Doctoral position in the Division of Neuropsychology
University of Miami Miller School of Medicine The Division of Neuropsychology within the Department of Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an opening for a post-doctoral fellow. The candidate should have a PhD in Psychology, preferably with training in neuropsychological assessment and interest in cognitive neuroscience. This two year position will involve neuropsychological testing of neurology and psychiatry patients and clinical research. Clinical research projects in the areas of Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, dementia(AD,FTD) and mild cognitive impairment, closed head injury, cerebral vascular disease, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, and demyelinating disease are underway. Seminars are available in neurology, neuropathology and neuroimaging as well as weekly grand rounds in neurology and psychiatry.
Post-doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology
San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center This two-year full-time residency begins September 2008 and provides advanced specialty training in clinical neuropsychology. Residents will gain supervised experiences in neuropsychological evaluation and consultation and in clinical interventions, with opportunities to train in a broad range of multidisciplinary clinical settings, including Traumatic Brain Injury program, Movement Disorders Clinic, Memory Disorders Clinic, and the Comprehensive Epilepsy Program. The fellow will engage in supervised clinical work and receive additional training in neuropsychology, neuroanatomy, and cognitive rehabilitation through clinical rotations, rounds, and didactics. The fellow will have opportunities to gain further research experience, and will be encouraged to be actively involved in mentored research. Additional training opportunities are available through the University of California San Francisco. Salary in year one is $46,968, with an increase to $49,220 in the second year, both with benefits. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens who are candidates in (or have completed) an APA-accredited doctoral program in clinical/counseling psychology and are enrolled in or have completed an APA-accredited internship. All requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed prior to the start of the residency on September 2, 2008. Research Positions
Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Center The Outcomes and Assessment Research and Spinal Cord Injury Laboratories at Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Center (KMRREC), located in West Orange, NJ, are seeking PhD-level candidates for research positions within a non-profit rehabilitation research organization. Successful candidates will develop their own areas of research and will assume roles on currently funded grants related to (1) the development of new Quality of Life instruments targeted for a rehabilitation population, (2) the development of new measures of cognitive functioning, (3) the utilization of virtual-reality technology in assessment of cognition and functioning, and (4) improvement of quality of life following Spinal Cord Injury or other traumatic injury. The SCI research laboratory has been designated as a model system of SCI research and practice, as it is one of 14 federally funded model spinal cord injury programs in the country.! The successful candidates will be expected to provide oversight and assistance on a wide range of laboratory activities as well as develop their own research areas that complement the strengths and mission of the research laboratories. Responsibilities include project management, grant writing, study coordination, data management/analyses, preparation of findings for publication, and supervision of research assistants. We offer a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. Successful candidates will be recommended for faculty appointments at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-NJ Medical School, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Research Scientist in Acquired Disorders of Language/Communication
MossRehab Research Institute -University of Pennsylvania Moss Rehabilitation Research Institute (MRRI) is seeking to fill an opening in Fall ’08 or later for an Institute Scientist in the area of acquired disorders of language and/or communication. This is a full-time research position at the equivalent of Assistant or Associate Professor level. The new Institute Scientist will join a productive team of investigators who study cognitive neuroscience, cognitive rehabilitation, and motor control/motor learning. Language and aphasia are particular strengths of MRRI, as represented by the active research program led by Myrna Schwartz and the multi-faceted activities of the MossRehab Aphasia Center, directed by Ruth Fink. The candidate should have research experience in a topic related to human language and/or communication after CNS damage. While area of specialization is open, preference will be given to investigators who complement our faculty’s interest in one or more of the following: models of (re)learning relevant to rehabilitation, techniques for promoting brain plasticity, and model-driven diagnosis and treatment. A large pool of patient volunteers with communication disorders secondary to stroke and TBI is available for subject recruitment. MossRehab, our sister facility and one of the nation’s leading rehabilitation hospitals, offers a venue for clinical trials research. Access to fMRI, TMS, ERP, and voxel-based lesion-symptom mapping is available through existing collaborations with the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Functional Neuroimaging. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a relevant area. Post-doctoral training, evidence of research productivity, and prior grant funding are highly desirable, as salaries and labs at MRRI are largely grant supported. A multi-year start-up package is available to facilitate extramural funding.
