The Concussion Research Laboratory and UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh have an opening for a research postdoctoral fellow starting July-August 2022.

The fellow will receive training and mentoring in clinical research design and methods, scientific and grant writing, professional presentations, peer-review, and career development. The fellow will assist faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals for external funding from NIH, DoD, and other funding agencies. The fellow will work independently and with program faculty on peer-reviewed papers, and have the opportunity to mentor undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, as well as clinical fellows. Current areas of research in the Concussion Research Laboratory include, but are not limited to:

  • Multiple randomized clinical trials (RCT) of active, targeted treatments for concussion
  • Concussion clinical profiles and risk factors
  • Multidomain clinical assessments for concussion
  • Vestibular and ocular symptoms/impairment following concussion
  • Long-term effects of sport participation and concussion on brain health
  • Saliva-based biomarkers in pediatric concussion and concussion clinical profiles
  • Neuroimaging and anxiety in pediatric mTBI
  • Health disparities in concussion clinical care and outcomes

We are seeking doctorate level (e.g., PhD, MD/PhD) candidates with concussion research interests aligned with one or more of the clinical research focus areas listed above. Candidates must have obtained their doctorate degree prior to the start date. Experience in concussion research (publications, grants, presentations), proficiency in data analysis and analytical writing, and familiarity with multidomain concussion assessments preferred. Priority will be given to candidates with a strong publication record in concussion or related areas. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines and experience as a post-doc and fellows are classified as benefits-eligible employees.
