The Adult Neuropsychology Division of the Neurology Department offers assessment and consultation to evaluate emotional and cognitive functioning in patients with known or suspected brain dysfunction. Neuropsychological evaluation is clinically indicated and medically necessary when patients show signs or symptoms of global intellectual decline or specific cognitive deficits such as memory problems, language disorders, visuospatial perceptual abnormalities, or decline in problem-solving skills. Neuropsychological evaluation yields information to assist in diagnosis, specify cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and monitor changes following neurosurgical procedures or due to brain trauma, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular disease, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, HIV, as well as other conditions that can affect emotional and cognitive functioning.
