The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Department of Psychiatry and Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) announce the availability of a postdoctoral research position focusing on the cognitive, real-world (e.g., driving), and psychiatric/medical outcomes associated with medicinal and recreational cannabis use. The incumbent would be integrally involved in projects examining the effects of using commercially-available cannabis products on cognition and driving performance, as well as the pain/mood/cognitive impacts of at-home cannabis administration in elite athletes, as well as other studies.

The scholar would primarily work with Thomas Marcotte, PhD, Professor in the UCSD Department of Psychiatry and CMCR Co-Director, as well as with CMCR leadership on projects advancing the mission of the Center. The scholar would be expected to ultimately develop his/her own grant submissions.

Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research. The goal of the CMCR is to foster the careers of future generations of basic and clinical scientists who will help develop deeper understanding of the potentials of medical cannabis as well as the interactions of cannabis and cannabinoids on health and social and behavioral functioning. The Center addresses a broad range of areas in cannabinoid science, including the treatment of various medical and psychiatric conditions, pharmacology, animal models, and possible adverse effects (e.g., cognition, driving) of cannabis use. Previous research experience is desired. Selection criteria include the degree to which the applicant matches with the above-mentioned areas of interest.

Salary is based upon the NIH payscale and the candidate’s experience. An optional second year may be available depending upon the scholar’s progress, and availability of funds.
